Do insurance companies monitor social media profiles?

Absolutely. All the time. One of the first things we will do when advising our new clients if you sign up with us, we will send a letter and we’ll talk to you through different steps you can take to protect yourself through this process. One of the first steps you need to take is make sure all your social media accounts are on private and that nobody can just come in and see it, because a lot of folks just have their accounts set to public. You won’t even get that request, they’ll go in. And if we have a deposition, you may be surprised to see a lot of your posts printed off and you’ll be asked about it. So first thing is make it private. Second thing is, no, at least during the pendency, don’t accept requests you don’t know and you don’t recognize from strangers.
