What Happened (per public reports)

On September 3, 2025, at about 5:20 a.m., a collision occurred on I-71 North in Carroll County, Kentucky. According to public reports from KSP Post 5, a Ford C-Max driven by a 75-year-old woman from Nashville, TN rear-ended a Ford pickup. The C-Max then left the travel lane and struck the rear of a disabled commercial motor vehicle that was parked on the right shoulder. The C-Max driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. Officials have not released details on weather, crash causation, or the carrier identity as of publication.

We’ll update this post if KSP or local authorities release additional, reliable information.

Safety Reminders for Highway Shoulder Scenes

Move Over & Slow Down: When you see hazards, flashing lights, or vehicles on the shoulder, change lanes if safe and reduce speed.

Night/low-light driving: Pre-dawn darkness reduces reaction time. Increase following distance and scan farther ahead.

Expect secondary hazards: Recovery trucks, responders, and debris can be present near a disabled vehicle.

What To Do After a Serious Interstate Crash (General Steps)

1.Get medical care immediately and follow your treatment plan.

2.Document the scene: photos/video of vehicles, skid marks, debris fields, lane positions, and shoulder setups.

3.Capture identifiers: carrier name and USDOT number (if a truck is present), license plates, witness names, responding agencies.

4.Preserve evidence: save dash-cam files; keep your phone and vehicle EDR data; don’t repair/dispose of key items before documenting.

5.Be cautious with insurers: provide basic facts until you understand your rights; consider declining recorded statements if you’re unsure.

Evidence & Records Checklist (If a Commercial Vehicle Is Involved)

•Police collision report and any reconstruction diagrams

•Passenger-vehicle EDR/ECM data; truck ELD/telematics and dispatch records (if applicable)

•Details on warning-device deployment for the disabled CMV (triangles, cones, lighting)

Tow/cleanup invoices; 911 audio and dispatch/CAD logs

•Traffic/roadway camera stills (time-stamped), if available

FAQs

Does the presence of a disabled CMV automatically shift fault?

No. Investigators consider conspicuity (visibility), placement/timing of warning devices, lighting, driver behavior, and roadway conditions.

What if I’m partly at fault?

Kentucky’s comparative-fault rules may still allow recovery, reduced by your share of responsibility.

How soon do I need to act?

Deadlines can be short. Ask about time limits that may apply to your situation.

Should I talk to the other insurer?

Provide basic facts only until you understand your rights. Consider getting guidance before giving a recorded statement.
